Muntjac hunting in England, good guide?
Is there someone that can recommend a good guide in Great Britian for hunting muntjac and maybe chinese water deer. If the guide have possibility too take a group of hunters (3-6) that would be an advantage.

In Feb 2000, I had good luck in Oxforshire where I shot 2 Muntjac and 2 Roedeer in a week's quality hunting (among them the CIC silver Muntjac pictured below).

The place is called Barnard Gate (between Oxford and Witney. For your stay, I also recommend "The Kings Arms Hotel" in Woodstock, very close by).

Andre,

Ken's name really rings a bell, but i can't quite place it...do you know if he has made a video on Muntjac stalking?

Peter

Don't know Pete. I first met Ken when invited at a (magnificent) pheasant shoot in Basingstoke, an estate owned by a renowned mustard producer (forgot brand and name)and where Ken is the head gamekeeper. It is my understanding that Ken leased the hunting rights for Muntjac and Roedeer at Barnard gate. One thing for sure, the man knows what hunting is all about...

Andre,

I have a 45 minute video on Muntjac stalking at home which I am convinced is by Ken; I picked it up for a few quid at a Gamefair a few years back. Although it is fairly old (probably shot in the early 1980's??) and has a distinctly amateur feel to it, it is one of my favourite hunting videos...

Pete

Andre,

Yes, its the same guy; in fact he is still wearing the same hat and coat! I have recently been decorating and I've not been able to find my copy of the tape, but that is him! I thought the name rang a bell!

Danny.

One of the many silly things in UK law - is the insistance that the minimum calibre for shooting both 40lb Muntjac AND a 350lb Red Stag is the same!

Over here the legal mimimum is .240inch. The prefered minimum tends to be the .243win on these little animals. Bigger works just fine however!
