Alpine Ibex

AKsheephunterAlpine Ibex
Ibex is one animal I would like to hunt in the near future. Has anyone hunted Alpine Ibex in Austria and /or Germany?, and if so, how do the prices compare to the Ibex hunts in Asia?
I don't think Ibex is hunted in Germany. Austria is indeed one option, and I believe they are also hunted in Slovenia. The canton of Vallis in Switzerland offers a few, but the waiting list is long.
Here is a good ibex taken in Vallis by a friend of mine:
If you enquire about the price (fair enough), the likelihood is that you'll probably not end up hunting the Alpine Ibex. The Ibex in Central Asia are larger and cheaper.
The primary locations for Asian Ibex are Kirgistan and Kazakhstan. The trophy quality in good areas in either country is probably about the same. Kirgistan offers hunting at higher altitude, but has the advantage that the trophy fee is not dependent on size. In Kazakhstan, the option exists to combine an Ibex hunt with species like Maral (Elk) and Siberian Roe. Kazakhstan is not a cheap location, though.
Mongolia and Russia also offer Ibex hunting. The Ibex on the Mongolian side are probably a bit smaller on average than either Kirgistan or Kazakhstan. Several years ago, I was fortunate enough to take an Ibex on the Russian side of the Altai Mountains. He was bigger than my first Ibex from Kirgistan, and the area was more scenic.
Several other species of Ibex are offered in the Caucasus mountains. Depending on exactly where you hunt them, these "Tur" don't have horns that look like the classic Ibex. But in terms of body size, they are the largest Ibex, and the hunting can be very challenging - on account of the terrain, and the scarcity of horses.
These guys seem to arrange a lot of hunts for either Tur or Central Asian Ibex, just to have some pictures to look at:

Hawkeye47Welcome AKsheephunter,
You can almost take 2 hunts in Asia for what 1 hunt for Alpine Ibex will cost in either Austria or Switzerland. I checked on a Swiss hunt 8 or 10 years ago and they were three times what the other Ibex hunts were in Asia.
Mongolia in the Altai mountains or the Gobi Dessert has many good Ibex. You can hunt the Siberian Ibex in the Altai, the Gobi Ibex in the Gobi Dessert and have a good chance at a Gazelle too!!! You can take all three animals for less than an Alpine Ibex.
Good Hunting,
Hawkeye47
Hello
A few years ago I hunted the Alpine Ibex and Chamois in Switzerland. This hunt was arranged by me through the Swiss game department. I hunted in the Canton of Valais, this area is French speaking so all correspondence has to be in French, I had a French Canadian friend write the letters for me.
The address of the game department is:
Service Chasse et peche
Du Canton Du Valais
1951 Sion
Switzerland.
You will also need hunting liability insurance and I got mine from
Swiss Mobiliar
Insurance Company
Agency for City of Berne
Bubenbergplatz 8, 3001 Bern
Switzerland
Fax# 031-311-4492
I had two People from the game department with me and shot an excellent Ibex and a very good Chamois. The trophy fees were less than half of what were being charged in Austria.

Aziz

AKsheephunterThanks for the Pics Aziz, looks like some great country.
Thanks for the Information Hawkeye and mho, I'll have to take your advice on this one, seems like a better deal to head towards central Asia.

mouse93AK no deal in Slovenia neither - biggest population is in the
TNP, but since they banned the hunting there only park PH's will take necceseary - sick animals out. Becouse of all that (overpopulated with game) park became a hotbed of scab that affect chamois and ibex. All our hunters that want to hunt ibex go to Mongolia as well.
Tho the country here does offer unbeatable stage no doubt and makes your juices flowing.

In Italy ibex hunt is forbidden, with a few exceptions; I've always heard that the meat is excellent, is it true?
I have had meat from my Mid-Asian Ibex, and that was excellent.

wildboarI too have vaguely heard something weird about marmotta's fat.
11 June 2010, 18:46
10,3x60rThe fat is very good for making Marmotta oil!
The marmotta oil is good for shoes and for problem in articolation (....in italian is frizionare la parte dolorante)
....ok i go
I don't eat the marmota I shoot [marmota monax or eastern woodchuck ]. I don't even have articulation problems .Maybe I should make the oil for shoes !

I'm surprised that the ricette doesn't have onion .Now if I could use ibex instead of marmotta it would be fine !
