Deer hunting Ireland - Coliite leases or private?
Hello all,

it looks like we were unsuccessful on bidding for a deer lease with Coillte.
I heard that a group of hunters apparently bought up a load of leases, but this is only a rumour.

I have a deposit down on a 308, but it is extremely unlikely that the Guards will approve my license without a lease.
Can anyone shed any light on what my options might be? I am desperate to get back into the hunting.

Thanks in advance.
Paul

Permission on private farmland that holds at least some deer should sort you out.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Or book some stalking with a guide.

Epsecially if you are new to things or a bit rusty I always think this is the best way anyway.

FB, don't think booking a day or two's stalking is adequate to have an FAC issued in Ireland. It certainly won't get you an FAC in the North.

However, access to some farmland near some forestry which holds a few deer should do the trick.

Thanks for the replies.
The Guards are quite stringent on these licenses here. I have 90 acres of forest and land to shoot on, but the local Guards must certify it suitability for the calibre of rifle I want.

Getting the deer leases was our best bet. I am surprised that just a couple of people can buy up nearly every lease going. Quite hazardous to the health of the sport in my opinion.
