sakoRe: Roedeer hunting in Sweden, Wich cal?
I found a new Sako 75 LH cal 6,5-55 at my gunshop today and fell in love with it! Told the owner id never buy anything from him again if he would sell it to somebody else

might get it the next two weeks along with an Diavari Z 2,5-10x50 scope that will go on it!!!

I have been looking for a lh rifle for a long time so i jumped on this one, plus the caliber is one of the most popular here in Iceland!
Well i must go driving to work, too bad i dont have the internet in my work as i work for two weeks without going home!

Well at least my new rifle and scope will be here waiting for me!
Thanks for your replys guys, im looking forward to go to Sweden for hunting with my new rifle!

MarteriusChrister, you must have been tasting all your malts today...

Sako: Congratulations to a nice rifle, in Sweden it will be legal for everything includin bear (though it would not be my first choice for a bear...).
And no, no bears at Gotland.

Regards,
Martin

HerrBerg.222Rem is the smallest legal chambering for roe deer, but nobody will scorn you for having a heavy rifle. I'd go for the .243 anytime.

ErikDI wonder, if the deer don't offically exist, would it be considered a "virtual reality" hunt? And then if they don't offically exist, I guess the yearly quota is whatever you want it to be!

K9_75- "roedeer hunting in gotland"
If we forget about bears and red deer for a while I have to admitt being somewhat skeptic to weather the roedeer population on Gotland (which officially doesn't exist) really is huntable? Someone who has better info???

Your swedish friends would be very impresed if you showed up with a 6,5x55

The 6,5x55 is a great hunting calibre for all game in europe and it is very light in recoil a real joy to shoot.
Match grade ammo is cheep and you can get many bullets for handloading.

sakoIve been offered a chance for roedeer hunting in gotland and im wondering which caliber is the minimum for them in Sweden?
I do have a rifle in ,243 wich i think is good for roedeer but its a varmint rig and not the best rifle for that kind of hunting and a light 300 win mag rifle wich is far too much rifle for those small deers!
So now i have a great excuse for a new rifle! something light and not too powerfull!
Any suggestion?
