Despite a continued effort to open the account on the Fallow bucks this season all we see is Does and Fawns...

One guy saw a buck on Tuesday night that only had one antler, but it didn't come clear for a shot. The bucks are about because we can hear them in the woods cleaning off but nothing is showing. Than night we had 3 seats occupied and all of them had deer in front of them.

Oh well,, I fell better for getting that off my chest.

well i saw three bucks last night!
all on their own, in good hard antler, lots of rubbing and thrashing trees. they seem to be seperating. only a couple of weeks ago they were all together, now they"re splitting up.
contrary to your experience, i have"nt seen a doe yet! i could"nt get a shot last night, as the grass is chest high, and all i see is antlers running through the grass.
hoping to get out on saturday morning and sit up on a hill overlooking some meadows.

You have my sympathy. Went onto some ground I have down here - chasing Sika.

Over the day I could have taken 55 hinds and calves..... and only 2 small staggies!

Went back and got one a couple days later. The good news is that the big boys start moving in once the rut starts...... but I have a job on once the girlies season opens! :0)

well, i went back on saturday and had the kind of stalk that makes it all worthwhile!
suited up at 6.30am, saw a buck at 6.48, shot him at 6.56.
shot off tripod sticks, sitting with my back to a tree. could"nt have had a better shooting position if i"d been at the range!
ping(suppressor)crack(bullet noise)THUD(impact)-beautiful 80 mtr neck shot!
could"nt stop grinning!

i must admit to being pretty new to shooting fallow. all my stalking ground up till now has only had roe and red, so this is a learning experience.
i did"nt weigh him, but i"m guessing at about 70 kgs. (it seemed like a lot more when i was trying to get him into the back of the car!)
age wise, he had fully erupted and well worn teeth. small palms on the antlers. maybe 4yrs old? one other thing, he was extrememly fat!
i know they"re building up for the rut, but i"ve never seen so much fat on a deer! a roebuck might have a lot of fat round the kidneys, and afew streaks here and there, but this guy was covered in it.
the heads been boiled, just needs cleaned off, freezers full, so he"ll have to do me for a few weeks! i won"t shoot any bucks/stags during the rut unless i really have to, as the meat just is"nt the same.

i have a T8 reflex suppressor. i had left the dog in the car as it was a very still, quiet morning, and i was"nt going far from the car. when i shot the deer, i went back to the car to get a drag rope and the dog. i took the suppressor off just to make the rifle handier to carry, as i did"nt want to leave the rifle in the car unattended. i picked up my phone from the car as well, and used it to take the picture.
my lab needs to go on a diet as he"s a disgrace! maybe if he lost weight he would"nt pant so much and i could bring him with me even on calm, quiet days.

I think it's a case of good things oome to those who wait.... I have done a bit 2 weeks ago and initialy saw only does and fawns but finaly got lucky. Here's my 8yr old son by the pricket I shot after a good stalk together.

The next morning was red letter day - a right and a left on big bodied but small antlered bucks (took 5 minutes to sex them at 300m with 7x42 binos) one at 300yards and one at 200yards prone over roe sac with the trusty old 7x57.

3 shots 3 fallow - then 10 days at my mother in law.....
