Cazador humildeSteyr
I know this should be in a rifles forum, but I thought I'd get better response from this one.
I'm looking at a Steyr Pro Hunter. How is that brand viewed in Europe and how well does it hold up in the field?
Thanks in advance.

HendrikNZThe Pro hunter stock fore-end is not rigid enough and the pillar bedding job needs to be replaced by a decent bedding job. Other than that its a great rifle; I have 1 in 7mm Rem Mag.
It holds up well to New Zealand conditions so I guess it should be fine in Europe.
Cheers

IanF+1 on Hendrik's reply.
The mk1 version was bad, use of a bipod invariably led to many unhappy hours chasing a group on the range.
The Mk2 version still has a fore-end that requires after market work to allow full confidence.
Accuracy is fine, trigger very acceptable - safety system a bit quirky but works.
Regarded as a reasonable rifle in the UK - equivalent to Tikka etc.
The bean-counters have managed to avoid Steyr maintaining its name for quality of late.

Cazador humildeThank you both for the details on this model. I'm not fond of having to tinker with a rifle to have confidence in it. The tang safety had interested me because I'm a right-hander that shoots left-handed (left eye dominant). I'll probably pass on this one. I have plenty of long guns that'll go "bang"; I was just "preparing" for a mountain goat hunt someday.
Thanks again.

NitehawkI have one in .270Win and I really like the rifle. I have no issues with the fore-end (but I haven't mounted a bipod) or with the safety.
It's very accurate and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anybody.

David SThe SBS steyr seems to have a mixed reception, I have a stainless Pro Hunter Mk2 and have absolutly no complaints with it.
The accuracy is good; the single set trigger is good; I like a detatchable mag, so that gets a tick; it has a three position safety, which I like. It's an accurate, well featured, well made rifle.
I have two right now a 450 Marlin and a 308. They look the same, the 308 is the heavy barreled guy and the size of the tube on the 450 is similar. The 450 has a 1913 rail.
I can't see any reason not to own more, but I covet another Steyr the Classic Stutzen in 308 or 6.5x55.
Both of mine shoot, have wonderful triggers, and work perfectly.
Dad has killed a few animals with the 308. I have taken a wildboar. The 450 has not made meat yet.
