German red deer
Here is my red deer from Hohenfels Germany. Age was estimated to be 12 years. The forester had been watching this deer for the last three years and said his horns were bigger last year. We saw several that were bigger but not old enough to be shot.

Waidmannsheil kodiakisland, even tho I only see the dreaded red x's, I'm sure your Stag is a nice trophy. I hunted Graf a number of years ago and was successful. Amazing the number of Red deer that call that area home. What was the Geweigh weight?, Dom.

Waidmannsdanke.
I have to take the geweih in this Friday to be weighed. I'm still in the process of cleaning up the skull, but I'm guessing 6-6.5 kilos.

Nice animal!

Lots of character and good crowns too.

I did not know that red stags 'peaked' so early. Is the peak trophy usually at 10 years?

Cheers

Beautiful stag! Red deer are my absolute favorite animal, though I have not hunted them yet.

By chance, was your hunt on the military base near Hohenfels? I was stationed in Bamberg from 1987-1989 and spent many cold nights in Hohenfels and Graf. I saw many deer and boars there, but couldn't hunt though.

I hope to return with my family one day, as I loved Germany while I was there.

I think that they Peak around 7, however down here many great trophys have been shot at 5 and 6. between 7-9 the tines may get a little longer and the antlers a little thicker. also depends on the feed they are eating and it varies from year to year. in terms of holding a harem of hinds id think around 6-7 they would have hit there peak physically

at 12 im not surprised he was going backwards!

Nice Red by the way. a good trophy by all means.

he doesnt look as big in the body as his New Zealand cousins.

Here in SE EU stags (in average) peak from 10-12 years. After 12 they are going backwards rapidly. The oldest I have seen was 15 years old - still very thick but short ~ 70 cm - great trophy but don't count on getting one since they are so rare.

I took the trophy back to be weighed yesterday. It was 5.9kg. They aged it at 12+. The teeth were almost worn flat. I had a few hours to spend in a high seat and ended up with this.

Good old stag! You have had a good "brunft"?
In our area the rut is coming to its end, tomorrow I`ll guide the last hunter for this season, after this I`ll go for my own stag - allowed for the "poor forester" only every third year!

Some results of the rut (not all!!),! All stags are in the 6,5 to 7,5kg-class!
@ Mouse93: on the picture my little srpski gonic (serbian hound).

Very nice. Congratulations!
