Not ten wolves but a few foxes!

Not Sweden and not wolves but rather Germany and foxes (Kathi's post). We held a group hunt at the weekend - 10 guns sitting from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. after foxes. It was cold at minus 2 Celcius! Managed to get 6 of them - some called / squeaked in and some on baits. I picked up a couple after that driving the concession / lease.
Total 8 for the weekend!
The ground game, hares, rabbits, pheasant, partridge and song birds and mice will be happy!
Ps. Will use some of the furs - already skinned out ready to send to the tannery.

marshmandanThank you for posting this. I always look forward to your posts. I do have a question though, what does one use to bait a fox? I've seen them eat most anything including corn. I arrived home after dark about a week ago to find one just a few yards from my house that was large enough I thought it was a coyote at first. I was so surprised by his size I failed to reach for the suppressed .22 in the front seat to shoot him!

Marshmandan, Thanks for the positive feedback!

Believe it or not but a few buckets of horse manure with the occasional piece of roe heart, lung, tripe etc in the pile works like a magnet! Manure doesnt freeze and the foxes will root in it for worms, maggots and other insects.
A couple of bait sites over the lease will draw the predators!

mt AlI really appreciate your stories, thanks for sharing and had never thought of horse manure as fox bait! Need to get my priorities right, haven't shot a fox in 10+ years

M.ShyGreat report and Waidmannsheil
Never been lost, just confused here and there for month or two

marshmandanThank you Charle, I would have never thought about the manure.
I once had a little red fox that lived right behind my previous house. Every time I cleaned game he would pop out to see what I was doing.
A few scraps here and there and I could eventually get within five feet of him.

Got another fox tonight bringing it to 29 for the hunting year 01 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 so far with a few weeks to go. Seeing a big difference in the ground game (hares, rabbits, partridge, pheasant) by keeping on top of the predators!

He would have only lasted around my house until the fur was prime.
