Charlie64The roe deer - Capreolus Capreolus
.
No real story to tell here other than share a couple of pictures of a mature buck that I was lucky to get at the weekend
on our concession here in Germany near the Dutch border. Shot him with a Sauer 101 in 6,5x55 Swede. He did not go more than
10 meters before he folded up. Shoulder, heart, shoulder. A good old buck to take with a good head. I'll put him at 4 maybe 5 years old at a push. Interestingly after a day hanging in the cooler two botfly larva (Cephenemyia trompe)(reindeer nose botfly) were in the blood bucket under the buck's head. Have not had that before!
Waidmannsheil!

mouse93Weidmannsheil Charlie!
Larva is by all means Cepahanomia - however I believe it is a "Cepahanomia stimulator" - rather common around here. Many times you can hear infected animal snorting loudly - nasty bugger that I would hate to have...
I bet there are more in the nasal cavity - ask guy who will do the cleaning of the trophy to tell you how muchg did he found...

I believe you may be right on the fly species! There were only the two. I rinsed out the nasal passage to see of there were more but only the two.
Hope your season going well. Look forward to pictures later.
Cheers
