Eland SlayerUK hunting tradition??
I am trying to remember the name of a specific European hunting tradition, but am having a hard time. I'm sure one of you gents can help me out.
I believe it originated in the UK. It is when a hunter takes a big game animal (perhaps a stag), a bird, and a fish all in the same day. There is a name for it, and I have seen it done on television a couple times.

shakariIIRC, it originally came from the book 'John McNab' by John Buchan.

Adam.270Buchan's original McNab was two stags and a salmon, poached from three estates whose lairds had received notice that 'John McNab' would make the attempt on a given day.
These days it is generally accepted to be a red stag taken on the hill, a brace of red grouse shot on the moor and a salmon taken on the fly, all between sunrise and sunset on a single day as a test of a true all round sportsman. The salmon is usually the most unpredictable and difficult part of the whole affair.
Kiri and I are currently working on a cunning plan to run a McNab week in September 2014 on a Deeside sporting estate, to see how many Mcnabs we can achieve between eight guests in six days...

jdollari took a McNabb several years ago in RSA( although i didn't know it until the farm owner told me that night at dinner).a rainbow and brown trout at sun up( on a fly, of course), a brace of guinea fowl mid morning, and a mountain reed buck mid afternoon. until dinner that night, i had never heard of a McNabb but they made a bit of ceremony out of the cake and cognac served…

Fallow BuckBrad,
We will be at Glenmuick house where we ran our grouse week this year. It is next to Balmoral in Ballater.
I think a week of mixed sport could be a heap of fun.
