Anyone for Salmon Fishing?
Hi Guys,

I've got a week on the Easkey in the west of Ireland on the 17th to 24th September. A couple of guys from here have expressed an interest joining me so I thought it might be worth opening it up.

Trapper and Brian fished here last year with me for a couple of days.

It is basically a very small spate river and when the fish are running it can be quite prolific. The week in question is in the middle of prime time IMHO. Short double handed rods can be used but most people use a nine to ten foot single handed rod in seven to eight weight with slow intermediate lines. Several fish last year were hooked at close range so it is not necessary to cast to far.

Accomodation is on the riverbank in the house that can sleep up to six. We will have Ghillie services of Ken Henry who is one of the top ghilies in the west of Ireland and my self to help where necessary. I will do all the catering in the house of an evening and we will also have breakfast at home. There is usually a run out for lunch of soup and sarnies to the village which we pay for in turn each day.

Cost is likely to be about £1650 for the week inclusive of all fishing accommodation and Breakfast/Dinner. You will have to purchase a licence and lunches, as well as supplying any tackle you require.

There is only six spaces in the lodge.

Rgds,
K

The Easkey is a great river, and if there is water you will catch fish. The mid September weeks are prime and fish will literally lie in their hundreds in the bay waiting for some rain and high tide, they then run the river in droves.

Beautiful spot. Do not think you must fly fish to enjoy this river. A red flying C and a spinning rod will be deadly effective.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

It really is a fabulous place.
The river is the colour of Cola and the beats descend through the ancient wooded valley towards the sea in a series of spectacular waterfalls and spates.
We worked all the beats in turn and there's lots of time and space to practice your art and absorb the magic of the place.
Despite being in recovery from Lyme disease at the time and unable to sample the local brew, I had a thoroughly enjoyable time.
Yep, this is a sober view of the place!

I wish I was going this year but have to rein in my away time and expenditure whilst I fit a new roof on the cottage in Devon.

I had a go at tying some very small cascades for the trip today. I've tied them on a tiny loop bottle tube system which is metal & should get the small fly fishing a touch deeper. I've not tied them before but with a bit of practice I think they should start looking good.
