Sad, but, all too predictable, given the circumstances. We see an increasing incidence of such horrific attacks here in BC each year since the "eco-freaks" became influential in determining wildlife management policies and I expect this to continue.

Alaska, BC and Kamchatka, have the largest and, in our case, rapidly growing populations of these truely awesome animals on our polluted old planet and more and more essentially "urban" people encountering them. The results are, sadly, predictable and many experienced bush people will now not go into bear country without being adequately armed.

If, the father had been armed with any decent hunting rifle and been properly trained in it's use, they would have all survived and perhaps only one or two of the bears would have had to be killed in self defence. TRY telling this to some "bliss ninny" with multiple university degrees in " ecology, man" and NO actual wilderness living experience, especially solo......it's enough to make one vomit.

If that woman had been carrying a handgun she would've had plenty of time to use it. Shotgun with slugs and buckshot would've worked very well also.

velocity is like a new car, always losing value.
BC is like diamonds, holding value forever.

Gotta ask. If she could call her mummy, repeatedly, why couldn't she call for help ? I'll bet they've never heard of bear spray there either. Big Grin
