Sako P72 .22 LR
I posted this on "Gun Collecting" and "Rimfires", but no one seems to know anything about it, so I thought maybe some of our European shooting enthusiasts might have a response:

I just acquired this apparently rare bird. It is marked Model P 72 and has no import markings that I can find. Its a Sako sporter in .22 LR, 22" barrel, single stack detachable magazine, all steel bottom metal, high luster blue and stock finish. As best I can tell, it pre-dates the Garcia era. Anybody know anything about this gun and is the magazine interchangeable with the later Sako Model 78 or the Finnfire?

THANKS!

Steve,

Any chance of a photo. My dealer has a very old 22hornet that they absolutely cannot sell because the clip is lost. It too is a single stack and the mag is not interchangeable or obtainable. Would be very cheap!

ADAM: Sure, I'll email you a photo, but it will be next week because I'm about to take off for a whitetail hunt this weekend!

I would love to have that Hornet, singleshot or no! I think that the Hornet was one of the calibers available in the Sako Model 78, along with .22 LR and .22 WMR. All of the (few) Model 78's I've seen had a stained stock with a very dull finish. My model P 72 has a gloss finished walnut stock similar to the contemporary centerfire Sakos.
