M98 6.5x55
Just bought a former competition rifle. A M98 action, a heavy Schulz&Larsen barrel and wooden stock in 6.5x55.
It was made in Denmark. Is there anyone here that has an experience of S&L barrels ?

Personally I am no fan of the caliber but the action rather and intend to use it someday as a base for something groovy

I wonder if this is a large or small ring action. If it's one of the old Swedish made actions you would be able to find better actions to build at.

I know of a few ZG-47 that would make a really nice hunting rifle. The price is not bad and the action will make a very nice custom rifle.

S&L barrels used to be faily good, but some say that the quality has been varying alot [Big Grin]

Johan, its a big ring M98 action, produced in the Danish empire. The price was good or just about 2000SEK. It remains to be seen if the barrel is crap or not. If its bad then the action is goint to be the base for a rebuilding project.

It costs less to buy, if you haven't limitation on guns, number or quality, it is better by my opinion to buy a Military k98 and work on it.
But I'm saying this because love SE caliber [Big Grin] , and S&L remember something like match quality.
Some day ago I saw a lot of Zastava K98, cost 200 euro. I'm thinking to buy 1 or 2 of them and customize or [Big Grin] hunterize (neologism) them.

Georg, I have access to exactly the same rifle ( a friend owns it). I modified it for scope usage (old eyes you know), and the S & L barrel sure seems to work well in this application. I can't say anything about other S & L barrels, I've only used one other (years ago, a S & L rifle in 308 Norma Mag, it shot well too), so this isn't a lot of data to base things on. FWIW - Dan
