It was a great December of driven hunts and walked up & rough shooting!
.

In past years, I often posted stories and pictures of group woodland shoots and hare shoots that I and family went on. This year December was full with mid week and weekend shoots, so much so that rather than post individual stories allow me to post photos of some of the moments.

There were a number of driven shoots with roe deer, wild boar and the odd fox taken and quite a few days of rough shooting, working my Springer bitch and bringing on the new member of the family, our Border Terrier bitch, Jinja.

On the dogs side there were labradores, GSPs, Munsterlaenders, Weimeraners and more. Whilst on the gun side I shot my old Webley & Scott 12/65, my 1890s Cogswell & Harrison 12/65, my Leeson 16 bore, my old H&H 12/65 single trigger side by side and on one rainy day my Browning 325 in 12 bore.

I was very pleased with how our Springer (now 3 pushing 4) worked, flushing hard and retrieving to hand and how well the wee terrier accepted everything we threw at her without flinching!

And now I will let the photos tell the rest of the stories ....

Nice one Charlie. Some good times there for the dogs and shooting participants. Is that a typical tally of Hares or are numbers up currently ?

Hey Grant, Happy 2023! Some areas the numbers are up - a dry spring and summer. Some of the shoots the numbers should have been good but the guns did not do as well as they should have. Blame it on Covid and the fact that all the shooting schools and clay ranges were closed!

All in all reasonable numbers and we have kept the foxes at bay which is showing big time!

All best for 2023!

Charlie

I was amazed by the size of the Hares you all have there. About half the size of the CWD.
Looks like good fun with your mates

Well done Charlie!

Hey Charlie welcome to '23.

Great pix, even the rack full of "broken shotguns".

Nice to see you out there among 'em.

Keep right after it. Thank you for sharing.

Great report Charlie, brings back distant memories of the time I spent hunting in southern West Germany.

Love your little springer, my own now at 20 months old and just waiting for our gamebird/wildfowl season to open again in May. She travels everywhere with me, can't keep her out of water but also quite at home up in some rough alpine areas too after deer and chamois.
