Stu CRe: Pictures from Portugal
Well Jan, let me be first to say thanks for the great pictures. I've never seen so much game laid out in one place before. Truely an awesome sight!
It must have been a wonderful experience, even if the weather wasn't the kindest.
Cheers,
Stu

BoghossianWOW, now that is a successful hunt...too bad you didn't get one of those stags! Was it easy to get some sort of temporary licence? Is the payment for these hunts a flat rate or a do you pay per piece shot?
Once again, great pictures and an impressive bag by all counts.

JanGThe price for the hunts was:
For the first day 1200 Euro including 2 stags and unlimited wildbore. Regarding the stags, the size limit was only that you was not allowed to shoot to small stags!! This included a very nice lunch.
The second day was only for wildbore, no limit in numbers,(it turn out that we could shoot stags too, if the were over 8-10 points). Price was 500 Euro including lunch.
Hunting licence for 30 days was 72 Euro.

JanGSorry!!!
I mixed the prices up with an other hunt.
The right prices are 1250 Euro first day and 250 Euro second day.

CrazyquikWhat type, and caliber, of riflers were most popular? What did you use? Just curious

JanGWe used .375 H&H but that was being overgunned regarding the red deer. Most of the hunters from Portugal had at least two rifle each with them to the post. One for long shoots and one for short range shoots. It was something to see all these rifles and scopes ( some had more than one scope to each rifle) on the way to their post. Regarding the type there was many Blaser R93 and dobble rifles.
They made very nice trophie mounts with the horns, with name and date of the montaria and name of the hunter. I dont think the meat is something you should bother with if you dont live in Portugal.

MACI was in Lisbon in late Sept for the last liberty port on my latest deployment for the navy and didn't find out about the hunting until the last day there. Our Morale, Welfare and Recreation division didn't bother to tell us about the hunting there. The head of that division on the ship doesn't believe in hunting and didn't pass the info on to us. Now that I see these pictures, I'm even more upset.

bwanamrmNeat pix and looked like a great hunt and experience. I've never hunted in Europe. I've always heard getting firearms in and out is a real pain! But I would like to hunt Spain and Scotland. Your pictures may make me put Portugal on the list!
Thanks!
