Much hunting left?
Hi guys
I just got back from Christmas in Belgium where I understand the main season for driven game is coming to and end soon (end of December).

Do you have much hunting left this season where elsewhere in Europe?

Here in the UK with our "deer treated like vermin" we still have a good few months of stalking ahead, leading into the early roe buck opener of 1 April....so it is pretty much non-stop though I don't like shooting heavy does in March and the bucks deserve a break too.

In Elsass (France) we are still driving till the end of January. If the weather and the moon cooperates, February should really be devoted to pigs and foxes in long nightly stand sessions (brrrrrr). Then it is off to Baldock at the end of February...

Most of the Norwegian big game hunting ends on the 23rd of Dec.
We do have hunting for various birds. As well as lynx in Febr./March. Then it's beaver, but they're hard to get until the spring when ice breaks. Smiler
Roe deer starts 10th of Aug, and pretty much marks the beginning of a new season for most hunters.

Lets see,

Roe about a month remaining,

fox 6 weeks,

Wild boar year round, sows are not allowed march- end of maj, I will take a few red/striped ones if I can,

Lynx, limited season starts 1 march and until the permitts run out,

I do belive that would cower it all.

Ohh yes this upcoming season I might get "hired" for doing crop protection, wild boar would be the game.

Doooh forgot one, spring Roe buck season, I might get an invite to play there to, have a friend or two that have grounds that allow for that.

Best regards Chris

Here in N Ireland we have:

Bird shooting until the end of January.

Female deer until the end of February.

Male Deer until the end of March.

Fox shooting all year round.

Trips to come:

Germany for Boar in three weeks.

Baldock in seven weeks.

By early April the fishing should have warmed up.

Do many of you actually stalk bucks/stags in April?

Most of the bucks are dropping their antlers by then and aren't in great condition after the winter, I usually leave them alone.

Some boar drives till end of January. Bears till 1st May, then roebuck season starts...never ending Smiler

ATM I am in a stand by with my dog - we are about to tranquillize a couple of red hinds and equip them with GPS collars - presence of the dog is esentiall to quickly find an animal.

Gabe, I certainly don't. Something in my head says, "it's March, it's warming up, leave them alone.."

A few years back when the country was closed for Foot & Mouth, we did take seven or eight fallow in mid April when the ground opened up again. There was a big party of bachelor bucks running together and the farmer wanted them broken up before they started grazing his silage ground like cattle.

They were in great condition, quite fat given it was the end of winter. They were still carrying their antlers which were very worn.
