Hi everybody

I just purchased two bottles of bore cleaner at www.GunBroker.com and arranged payment via www.BidPay.com (former www.auctionpayments.com) money order just to immediately receive an email, that my order has been denied...

WHY??? Because BidPay has an Anti-Gun Policy that does not even allow me to use their service to pay for 2 bottles of ordinary BORE CLEANER!!!

So now I am looking for another posiibility to pay the seller in US. He does not accept credit cards and is not registered with paypal...

I am thankful for any ideas you guys come up with!

You can use Western Union to wire the payment or you can do a wire transfer from your bank to his. Western Union is by far the least expensive.

BidPay is in fact a Western Union company! They are the branch that is dedicated to all the online stuff. Problem with regular Western Union is, that there are only a handful of their offices in Germany!

What kind of banking system do you have in America anyway? Why is wire transfer so unpopular? Seems to me like the easiest solution around...

The cost of transferring comparatively minor sums are pretty high compared to the amount to be paid... If you trust the seller, just dump the $$$ bills into an envelope and mail them to him. I usually wrap up the bills in a piece of paper (accompanying letter), makes them harder to spot from outside the envelope. I have done this a number of times, have yet to loose any in the mail, or to fraudulent sellers. Naturally, there is a risk involved. If you feel less risk averse, send letter registered.

Shipping may be more difficult than the transfer of the money. Many chemicals can not be sent by mail in the US.

All my payments were made via PAYPAL.

Talk to the seller and explain the problems you are having. Tell him that the methods he won't accept are the easiest for you to deal with.

Sounds like you have made a good faith effort to pay.

I personally would give the seller a list of options that I could pay with. If he replies that none are acceptable to him, I would call the deal off.

Lastly, wire transfers are unpopular in the US for several reasons. First, paying by check is still very accepted, second, credit and debit card acceptance is almost universal (over the phone, via mail purchase, and via internet purchases), and last, transferring cash over the internet is becoming very popular with the use of secured, encrypted websites.

indeed, that would have been my last choice. Fortunately I worked out another solution. I simply asked the seller to sell me the item via ebay. Thus BidPay does not associate the item with a firearms auction website and has just approved my money order!

I agree, paypal is a fantastic service. I have used it quite a few times so far and have always been pleased. Still the buyer would not accept paypal...

The seller has been extremely cooperative and agreed with my plan to sell the item to me once again - but this time on ebay!

Everyone says Money Orders are not safe, if you dont know the recipient. So I took the risk this time, but I have his full address and various phone numbers that all work, he answered all my emails - to cut a long story short, he simply seemed to be very trustworthy!

Anyway, credit card is my favourite payment...

What's more, fraud involving a transaction where the Post Office was used (as in paying with a USPS money order) is a Federal offense, and will be investigated by the US Postal Service's Inspector General's Office.

You are right - USPS seems to offer the most safe money order out there. Problem is, I cannot purchase it in Germany!

Hey elwood -- Check with Deutsche Post about International Postal Money Orders. I haven't had to use one in a while, but they used to be commonly used, and were reasonably priced.

Let us know how this works out!

To all I know they do not offer this service any more. All they offer is wire transfer, certified check or sending the money by mail...

Wire transfer is reasonably priced but hardly ever accepted by american sellers.

Certified check is rather expensive and you nevr know how much the american bank will charge you to cash international check.

Sending money by mail is not the safest way but causing least trouble.

I just arranged payment via BidPay. They are more or less the online version of Western Union. They charge your credit card and send a money order or direct transfer to a bank account. Since BidPay did not like my purchase from GunBroker.com I simply had the seller sell the item again via ebay. That's how we outsmarted BidPay...
