Look for somebody with ACTUAL field and reloading exprience with 6.5 x 65R

It will be factory barrel hence 1 in 8 twist and no other choice

I plan to use 140 grains for everything

Can you kindly share your experience ?

Trajectory over 300 metres

Your preferred powder choice?

Have you tried to form case from 3006 rather than buying RWS offering ?

It will be replacing a 6.5 x 55 which I have used for 04 seasons

There is mention from previous threads in 2006 about difficulty in reloading. Have you encountered them ?

Have you regreted your decision in this caliber?

Do you plan to reload?? If yes, be aware of what seems to be a ubiquitous formation of "donuts" on the inside of the brass. Not sure where it comes from, or why it seems so prevalent with this particular cartridge. But if you research the subject, time and again, you'll run into reloaders having to inside neck ream their brass to get rid of the darn things.

IMHO, if that is the class of cartridge you want, other calibers will give you equivalent performance for less money and effort: .270 Win, 6.5x57(R) etc.

Yes Mike its everywhere on the interent thats why I am asking for somebody with ACTUAL experience of this cartridge.

My alternative is a 270 or 7 x 64 with light weight projectile but I just have an affinity to 6.5 projectiles which has served me well.

why not rechamber to 6,5*284norma.

I have a Blaser K95 in 6.5 x 55

I had a little accident a month ago and the barrel and silencer needs to be replaced.

Hence I am pondering something different just for a change.

All the time I had the 6.5 x 55 I wish I another 50 metres or so of MPBR

6.5 x 284 I have already for OPEN F class but not available in K95.

The sensible person will re-order a replacement 6.5 x 55 barrel and silencer but I do not wish to be sensible.....

Blaser have refused to built me a 6.5 Meisner or Schuler saying they are too busy this year with orders for R8 !

From What I can see from the quick look I've had on the case drawings, it should be possible to re-chamber a 6.5/55 K95 barrel into 6.5x 284 if you wish to. As far as I can see you are pretty much taking metal away all round, but the smith will need to look into the effect on the ejectors/extractors.

Not sure if the barrel length is enough to get a full powder burn, but then there are others with far better knowledge of such things than me.

I have been to Callum and Bowers both refused to put their reamer up the chamber of any Blaser or Mauser due to their hardness.

When I had my K95 screw cut by Bowers prior to the write up for the shooting times article

Bower charged me for 02 cutting heads.

He never took on another Blaser since.

6.5 x 65R seems to fit the bill but there are recurrent rumbling on the net about donuts forming on the inside neck after a few firings hence I wish to hear from somebody with ACTUAL reloading experience rather than hearsay.

I am told I can have a replacement barrel in 6.5 x 65R from stock WELL before the start of hunting season so I can do load development before hand.

There is a firm in Austria making custom barrels for K95 but they are not doing so anymore due to low demand.

OK here's what happened

Took my rifle to the range planning to shoot 600 yards.

Since new range rules dictates that first shot have got to be on paper I went to 100 yards first to make sure I am zeroed.

This I did and it was smack on at 100 yards 1.00 inch high. Not a mm deviation.



I then left the rifle on the bench talking to other shooters. It recall was a very busy sunday.

Being a take down single shot rifle, quite a few shooters(guest of a member) came over and ask if he could have a look at my rifle. He had been an experienced shooter for over 40 years and had never handled a silencer before.

I recall him removing the silencer and after viewing it replaced my rifle back on the bench.

30 minutes later I packed my rifle into a hard shotgun case with the silencer attached and proceeded to 600 yards range.

I assembled the rifle at the firing point, clicked to 600 yards and the silencer disappeared down the range like a grenade launcher.



Nobody was hurt but the barrel now have a bump of 2/1000 2.5 cm rearward from the crown and the silencer have 02 extra vents..........

It will be moderated without barrel band, sights and factory screw cut.

Did you look at the threads on your barel after this happened? That looks like a baffle strike and that the guy that was messing with it cross threaded it when he screwed it back on.

I am not familiar with what barrels Blaser does chamber for but I would be looking at the 6.5x68.

cross threaded or not tight on either way the silencer will
not be concentric resulting in a baffle strike

I am curious how easily that will be able to be replaced in the UK.

In the states taht probably would not be reparable by the manufacturer and you would have to purchase a new can and you are looking at a minimum of 90 day to get the paperwork approved.

Man you are killing us here.

YOur country makes it tough to own a firearm but a can is an over the counter purchase.


Here we can pretty much walk out with any gun we watn in most states but the can is a long drawn out process.

I envy you guys for that.
