I've ask this question before on another AR site, but could not get the right answer.
O.K. here's the story. In the next 3 to 5 years, I want to go to Africa and hunt Namibian plains game. I want my wife to go with me (will touch on this later).
From the U.S. I want to take Delta Airlines to Frankfurt, Germany and transfer to Air Namibia, non-stop into Windhoek, Namibia. Return trip would be the reverse.
Now here is where the wife comes in. She has reservations about going to Africa, you know, bugs, snakes and other verman. So I said, on our return trip we can layover at Frankfurt, rent a car and head to Paris, Normandy and the Loire Valley for a week to 10 days. This made it a done deal.
This is the question. I know that the German and French government's aren't going to let me tour around with a .300 Weatherby rifle and 30 to 40 rounds of ammo. What do I do with my rifle in Frankfurt? I would feel very unconformable if I had to leave it in a airlines baggage area. Do they have companies that store your firearms?

Just leave at a gunshop to have it cleaned.

Importing them even temporarily might be difficult. I would contact customs at the Frankfurt airport to check. Usually they are pretty helpfull.
