Big Dog Fox Pics

Hi all,
I was taking a few pics of some rabbits that I had shot..when lo and behold this fox ran right past the truck at the very moment I took the picture,

I quickly grabbed the rifle and gave him a OBE...ie one behind the ear

Seriously though found these pics from last year,I was out lamping rabbits with the cz 452 .22 and spotted this fox about 100 yards away trotting off, swapped the rifle for my .222 and dropped him with a 55gr Sako SP.
Dont know if anyone else has tried it but I've found Sako ammo really good.

Bog,
A lot of the bigger farms round our way are beef and cereal orientated, but there are still plenty of smaller farmers with sheep.
One of the bigger farmers told me he didn't mind the foxes and wanted them left, this didn't seem very neighbourly to me as the next couple of small holders to his vast farm have sheep and have had problems in the past.
Besides which foxes account for a goodly number of ground nesting birds etc,but they dont seem to care about that either.
Oh well....I shall just continue to crop them as the opportunity arises

Nice pictures, do you carry two rifles while rabbit shooting, or was this from the car?

Hi roebuck,

I use SAKO ammo also in my .243, (Gamehead). I think it is superb and have had great results with it to date. I'm also shooting the 308win, (some hammerhead swerve, in 150gr) haven't shot it at game yet though.

Hi Fallow Buck!

I can help you out on this one: Im currently using the SAKO Hammerhead 150gr in my SAKO 75 Varmint in .308. Very pleased with the results so far.

Ill try to post a picture of a fox I got on Skye last month. He never knew what hit him.

Here it comes:

Ahhhh Bless....

Ho looks all sleepy!!!

I should imagine they don't go far when you hit them with 150gr's of attitude!!

I'm looking forward to the first beast with the 308, but I just haven't had time to get out. The last 3 weeks every trip I had planned , I had to cancel. I did get out on Saturday mng, but it was so fogggy I couldn't see a thing.

Shot a stag with my SAKO gear as well. Nothing spectacular, but an exciting highland stalk!

He took three shots in the vitals, probably due to the rut.

Personally I do prefer the .308 over the Scottish all-time-favourite .270. The .308 might not be capable of 300yards+ shots, but I like the heavier bullets and its pinpoint accuracy.

Good luck with your .308,

Bog,
I often carry both rifles when lamping rabbits from the truck,I have shot fox several times with the .22 at close range, however I was often seeing foxes just outside the .22's reach (or what I am happy with),but the .222 settles that nicely.
I am not primarily a fox shooter, and dont target them specifically...round our way I am not sure anyone does anymore,I've spoken to several farmers who are quite happy to let the foxes be,so much so that it is not uncommon for me to see them in broad daylight.
So no shortage of fox with us.

Hi,
Is that because of changing farming practices? I know that most beef farmers/horse breeders don't mind foxes much...but most countrymen still can't resist shooting them on sight!
