BoghossianFallow Trophies
Hi,
I am going to hunt fallow deer for the first time this October and was hoping for some trophy evaluation tips from the wise men of this board.
Could someone also enlighten me with the terminology used to describe the different parts of the antler?
Also, are there any features (apart from palmation/big antlers) that are particularly desirable ala crowns on a red stag?
Are there any featurest that allow the age of the animal to be guessed?
The hunting area is on forestry land that is maily pine trees with lots of open glades, I hope the poorish environment won't affect antlers.
Since it is forestry land, the guys in charge want less deer instead of any management malarky and so I will probably conclude most trophy appraisals in the bed of the truck, but would rather not shoot anything with potential for future growth.

I suggest you either contact a deer association, game warden or CIC
http://www.cic-wildlife.org/ They shall be able to give you detailed info about trophy evaluation

Here you can download the red and blue book
