bobby van der PuttenMostly boar, very often with a shotgun and even buckshot as the vegetation can be quite dense. Most shoots are organised by the local (village) hunting association. Boars are driven by various packs of hounds, and shot on known flight paths.
Sometimes the boars are crosses with domestic pigs which roam free in the mountains. The butchering and sharing out of the venison during lunch is an important part of the hunt

AndersWhat about mouflon?
After reading some books on sheep hunting recently, I recall reading that most scientist believe the mouflon originates from the isle of Corsica and Sardinia..
Don't know if you can hunt them there..

BoghossianBelieve they have a specialised boar dog in Corsica - the Cursinu.
This link
http://www.chasseurs2a.fr/La-chasse-en-Corse_a15.htmlexplains that 17000 people hold hunting licences in Corsica (1 in 5 men) and that boar are the only legal big game. Mouflon and red deer are fully protected.

mhoI have no idea whether this is any good (no recommendation, or otherwise), but it sounds like it might be a possibility...

Fallow BuckAnders,
Corsica Sardinia and Cyprus are the original homes of the Mouflon. It is not hunted "officially" in Cyprus and sadly poaching is rife. I saw some herds earlier in the summer while working in the Troodos mountains.
The partridge season opens next week, and I'm heading back for my first opening day in nearly ten years. I can't wait!!
Vegard, good luck with corsica. You should also look into one of the greek isles which you can hunt Kri Kri Ibex on. I don't remember the name of the isle off the top of my head but these forums had quite a discussion on it last year some time so a search should turn something up there.
Rgds,
K

AndersThanks Kiri!
Just bought the new SCI record book for mountain game. There's one listing for a cypriotic mouflon which is considered a subspecies.
Sad to hear that poaching is still going on.
Good luck on the partridge! Recon you report thouroughly.
