PondoroWild boar in Sweden..
I wonder if any swedes on the forum could advise me how to do some boar hunting in Sweden...?
Also, I have a lovely Mannlicher Schønauer in 6,5x54 and would love to use it.....should I feel undergunned with this calibre...??
( I do posess heavier rifles as well)
I shot my wildboars with a 308, a 30-06, and a 12 gauge slug.
My new wildboar rifle is a 450 Marlin Steyr SBS. But I will tell you this, the sow shot in the heart died on the spot with the 308.

well there is quite a few elephants that will attest to the effect of the 6,5x54 MS as long as you use the 160 grains bullet you should be good.

wildboarThis topic has been beaten many times in the past; you will never have the final reply. While many will say that a 6.5 mm is enough, others (like me) will say that
the bigger, the better; I would not feel confortable with anything smaller than a 7x64 with 160 gr. bullets. Actually, my boar rifle is a BAR cal. 300 WM, loaded with 200 gr. Norma Oryx bullets.

Andre MertensThe 6,5 and 7 mm's may be OK for stalking or stand hunting were you can place a bullet on a standing and unsuspecting animal. But for really big boars and especially any driven animal, small calibers are definitely out of place. On these shores, where drive hunting is the norm, the 9,3x74R or -x62 are very popular and... effective.

Husqvarna M98I am with André,
on this one, unless we are talking about 6,5-7 mm magnums loaded with TSX or similar bullets I find the small cals to be on the weak side hunting boar.
There are huge drawbacks with TSX bullets on driven boar hunts or any driven hunt,
they have a tendency to bounce and last they make to small of a hole.
For stand hunting ower bait, the 6,5 cals are great and will do the job with out frills.
Still it all boils down to the size of the boars.
Best regards Chris
