Heads Up! Classic stalking rifle spotted on the shelf.
Folks

Just come back from a visit to the Sportsman Gun Centre in Exeter.

Nestling amongst some other second hand stalking rifles was something that stood out like a lingerie model at a bible convention.

Closer inspection revealed it to be a stalking rifle by Franz Sodia - profusely decorated on action and bottom metal by some good quality engraving.

7 x 57, Mauser action with thumb cutout, bolt has very slim 'Mannlicher' style flat handle, wing safety as usual BUT also on the wrist was a shotgun style safety catch, Eeker very nicely done & a complete surprise. Double set triggers. Steel butt pad and grip cap. Only fault I could find was a chip out of the stock under the thumb cut out. It has been repaired, but really needs replacing with more carefully colour matched wood - before a coat of oil on the stock. Irons with standing leaves and german silver bead - claw mounted 4x32 Kahles(?)with German post reticle.

Folks - enquiry revealed a price of £450 before any haggling! Hmmm ! Roll Eyes

Now this is not a rifle I need, but to anyone with an appreciation of really fine classic hardware, I'm thinking it could be a find!

Enfield Spares - forget the CF2 (though they had a stuzen .270 in need of love at £150) - you really need to be thinking in terms of this one!

Ha, ha!

I was bidding on this...until the auctioneer announced "apparently it appears a slight crack in stock":

So dropped out and bought this "on the rebound" as a consolation prize:

I would venture a guess that it´s this one

PARKER HALE
A .270 BOLT-ACTION SPORTING RIFLE, NO. S-34708
24-inch barrel with ramp fore sight, the receiver mounted with a Zeiss Diatal-z 6x42 telescopic sight, bolt with sliding side safety, magazine with hinged base plate, recoil stud, the half length figured stock with pistol grip and recoil pad, 14-inch pull, 9lb. 8oz., nitro proof

Enfields, you got that one at a really good price, the scope alone is worth the price.

Congrats at a great rifle, hope it shoots as good as it looks.

Well off to work again/ Best regards Chris

It is! The very one! I sold the bare 'scope on it's own no rings or mounts on eBay just after Christmas for £225 (less eBay and Paypal commission) as I don't like 6x 'scopes.

I bought a Zeiss Diatal 4 x 32 in Paris to put on it but got that wrong! 26mm so won't fit the 1" rings it looked like 1" in the gunshop in Paris.

But never mind I got an as near new Pecar Champion 4 x 35 in it's box from Rugby Gunshop for £150 so it now wears that.

But if this new combination shoots as good as it looks I'll be very happy.
