I'm looking at a double rifle case to travel with this year and thought The Plano With Wheels looked like a decent quality case.

Has anyone used it or have any recommendation on an alternative?

I want to be able to fit two scoped rifles into it and it must be aircraft suitable and lockable, preferably without a padlock, (just more keys to loose...

I have an old plano rifle case, and just bought my wife a plano bow case for 50 bucks at bass pro. They are'nt fancy, but they're good value for the money.

I just ordered a Plano Airglide case #1301. A different design .I'll find out what it's like soon.

I quite like the look of the Tuffpack as it goes. I need to be able to travel with up to three or four firearms at a time so that could be the best solution.

Does anyone stock them in the UK?

As it happens, I've recently tripped over several of those Tuffpack cases going cheap - give Sloanes of Inverurie, nr Aberdeen, a ring, as they have some gathering dust and I vaguely recall they were reasonably priced. I don't fancy lugging one about though, as they even made the 1750 Pelicase look like a lightweight item (which at 10kg+ empty, it assuredly is not)

I have the Plano GunGuard case you are talking about. It's a great bit of kit, built like a brick outhouse and fits two large, scoped hunting rifles. Uttings are doing them for less than £150 at the moment.

What a difference in the past 12 months almost every airline is tightening up now.

Watch out and get what you are told in writing before you proceed to the airport.

Thats the best advice I would give.

Many Airlines include a Gun Case as incidental luggage similar to other (of similar weight) Sporting Goods, Golf Clubs, or other requirements such as Child's Car Seats, etc.

I'm all for protecting rifles & shotguns BUT be careful what your purchase is actualy protecting and how much it weighs without the contents - some (Pelican especially) can easily reach weights exceeding cost free baggage allowances.

Wait until you hear the Counter Agent's response when you toss one of those on the Scale - Takes the breath right outa your Body!

I had a Plano case, but I rate the peli case higher.

Virgin currently allows free carriage of sporting goods up to 23kg in addition to your hold baggage allowance. The guidance wasn't that clear but I assume this also incorporates the 5kg ammunition allowance. So you really do need to be careful of the dead weight of the case if you are transporting more than one rifle at a time.

Your ammo allowance can come out of your regular baggage, as it has to be seperate from the rifles in a lockable container.

To date I have not had any queries on the weight of firearms but then I usually have a lot of spare weight in my checked regular baggage.
