Northern Ireland Dogs For Deer Course
Are any of you N Ire players attending tomorrow's and Saturday's BASC "Dogs for deer" course in Portavo estate, Donaghadee? Andrea Green in the deer dept, 01244 573047, can still add a few names and there should be enough scoff to do everybody. Let me know by PM so that we can put faces to names if anyone is going ... Alan, I had no idea this course was running.

I could not go tomorrow in any case. Pity as I would be interested in this subject.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

That's a pity Brian. I know we've both seen our fair share of deer on the deck, but how about a carcase handling and disease recognition day on Saturday 14th march at Carrowdore estate near Millisle? They have a brand new herd of Fallow and it's rumoured some smaller imports. BASC contact is Anne Mellows 01244 573018 .... Smiler

Just having driven to and from Belfast today I am damned if I am going to charge back up the road again tomorrow.
The carcase handling and disease recognition sounds interesting.Do the brand new herd and the smaller imports have some nice diseases for us to handle and inhale deeply from thereof.
MMmm theres nothing like a pair of cheesey deers lungs shortly after dawn to wake you bolt upright and bring you out in a cold sweat !

Hi Alan I'd be up for the carcase handling, any idea of the cost?

It is £60 for the day, being held in Co. Down. Worth doing I think, for me because I really need the find out about it as I'm a beginner. Might be useful for even the more experienced so they can show some sort of "due dilligence" in getting training etc. and there is always more to learn about anything. If you are going along let me know so I can say hello.

Hi Guys ..... The dogs for deer course was rather special. We had the benefit of Neils Sondergaard from Denmark to give us the basics of dog selection and training for tracking and the chase. I could talk for hours on the subjects covered but won't bore you with the details. Something any dedicated amateur or professional deer manager should look closely at.
