I cannot find my notes with the weights for CIC Roe full skulls. Can anyone post the weights (dry) and remind me of the drying period and the rule of thumb % to take off for freshly boiled skulls?

For a full skull (less lower jaw) deduct 90grms from scales weight..For a "long cut" skull you deduct 60grams from scales weight..These are based on the weight in air of course...

Next immerse the antlers into water upto the coronets..no part of the skull or pedicle should entre the water...

Subtract this weight from your first weight and you get a volume...Multiply this volume figure by .3 for the volume score...


Work out your other scoring and add up your score...

Bronze is 105 Silver is 115 and Gold is 130..

As a rough and ready guide:

Bronze medal will need a dry weight of 455grms for a full skull, and volume of 150 CC,

Silver medal will need a dry weight of 510 grms for a full skull & a volume of 165CC

Gold medal will need a dry weight of 570grms for a full skull with a volume of 200cc

For length, you are looking for excess of 26cm to get in the medals if all else is equal...

The skull needs to have been dried out for three months before it can be scored officially..I have no idea how much a roe head would shrink in that time, very little I would imagine..
