Ruger No 1
Does anyone know of any British gunsmiths who specialise in working on the Ruger No 1 Single Shot? Depending on the donor rifle I am looking at a project to rebarrel to 7-08 Rem, bed/free float and sort the trigger etc to produce something a litle different but still a really accurate rifle.

Sprarrow,

I have had several accurate and very inaccurate Ruger number ones.

Here are thing best things you can do for a number one.

New match grade barrel on older models.

Place a thin rubber gasket between the stock and the barrel in the forend.

Replace the trigger with a Kepplinger or similar quality unit.

Weld on a forend extension to the fore arm hanger to give more metal to clamp the forend stock to. Thus keeping it away from the barrel.

The most accurate 375 I ever owned was a Number one. The most inaccurate rifle I ever owned was a Ruger number one in 300 Win.

I have had a 25-06, 405, and a few others.

Some of the older ones are crap, and some are fine. Some of the newer ones are crap and some are fine.

I would estimate there are those out there that no amount of money would fix. But I doubt it.
