londonhunterBallistic gel
Has anybody used ballistic gel to test loads short of going to my butcher and look like a fool or terrorist ?
When can I buy proper ballistic gel in Europe ?
I need to test a cartridge next week that's all

Nah ..... don't test my loads like that; I usually shoot them.

but then again I'm not one to cast the 1st stone, either; so if that trips your fancy - Whatever ..... Dear.

JVYour butcher might not be the worst place to start. I have used gelatin (aspic) from a butchers supply store successfully. Another source of cheap gelatin might be a pet store, since gelatin is sometimes sold as a dog food supplement.
Just make sure you make it strong enough, 20% of gelatin by weight seems to work well and can be re-used many times.

ScotsGunMy mates and i once made up a deer target to test Barnes bullets against 'normal' lead bullets.
We sourced bulk gelatin powder from a butcher's supply store in glasgow, scotland. We set a roe skeleton in it and covered it with an old hide.
You need to keep the gel cool or it willl quickly ruin.
