Pete ENew Banner Pic: Please Vote
Ladies and Gents,
I've locked the original thread to prevent any more submissions so we can get on with choosing a banner pic.
No offence to the posters, but I've have deleted a couple of the trophy pics as that was not really in the spirit of what we've looking for...Having said that please feel free to use them in hunting reports within the forum ect..
So, one vote per member...I'll keep mine till last in case theres a tie! The lines will be open until next Sunday or I get bored!

puntgunnerI go for the stag as well !
Might as well see what we are supposed to be shooting at !!
Nice picture
The broadside Stag is very nice, but how about that on the left and on the right the pic of the ladderseat w/fog, that would be my vote, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

CohannonMy vote is another for Nightwalker's broadside Red Stag. Hope to bump into another one of his Scottish relatives rather soon ...

Yes, that broad-side stag shot is a classic pose!
I also like Mouse's pictures. The roe is nice, but this is even more spectacular (sorry, entered too late to be a part of the voting... ):

How come? You can find red stags all over Europe, not just in UK!

nightwalker ukI personaly thought the stag with its backside on would have got the votes?
I can assure you no photoshop was used in these pictures - just think Mr Yates if I did know how to use photoshop I could enhance the antlers on that first roe buck you shot, all those years ago!!!

True enough. But the beast in question was snapped in Richmond Park in SE London!!!
Admittedly its a good photo, excellent in fact. But is it a suitable header photo for this European Big Game Hunting section, given it provenance? No IMO thats why I pick the forest ride photo.

IanFOf the pictures submitted so far - my vote goes to the broadside Red.

I agree they have a certain old world charm about them.As well as a touch of the aesthetic about them, along the lines of the old hunting books that are now so in demand, and highly priced.
It would be a shame to see them go, to be replaced by some digitised photo opportunity.
I guess their appeal is similar too old books, old whiskey, old brandy, vintage wines and old guns. All of which are high on my list of desirables.

Steve LathamAre we not keeping the old figures, either side of any new pictorial that is chosen?

I've looked and can't find where that particular bit of the plan was shared with the membership?

Alex.YBrian,
now you've done it, you know Jacobs never replied to direct questioning,
you might me met with wordplay straight from the politicians hand book of wriggling if it was.

I wondered who was going to crack first, the prize goes to Brian!!

H5, Just to help you out Pete discussed the this idea on the initial thread when I floated the idea of a picture change. Didn't think it would be so controversial?

Cheers NW

You know you could just be right................

Pete EWith the voting now closed, its looks like the clear winner was the broadside red stag...
Hopefully with in a day or two, I get image up as a new banner...
The actual photo needs to be a bit smaller, so I was thinking of cropping out some (not all) of the background so that the stag still looks prominent in the new banner; do people think that will work??
Regards,
Pete
25 August 2008, 18:30
Husqvarna M98I think that sounds like a great idea Pete.
Best regards Chris
25 August 2008, 19:47
Steve LathamLooks like a reasonable reduction can be had by trimming mainly on the right hand side anyways Pete,

Cropping of the foreground and rhs of the photo should produce a usable image.
25 August 2008, 21:58
Pete EI've cropped the image down slightly, but retained some space on the RHS as I think it makes for a better composition and keeps the feel of the original photo..
I've sent of the request to Don so hopefully by tomorrow we'll have the new banner in place, barring any unforeseen difficulties...Don may have to reduce the overall size of the image, but that will be at his discretion...
