kokdyerRe: Tweed Coat and breeches or ..microfibres?
I went to Corte Ingles and tried out there lines of hunting clothing in Jerez del Fronteria. They have Barbour and Aigle. They have more in Sevilla in the big store down town, Beretta and maybe one or two more. None of the stuff you guys are talking about.
I hadn't ever tried on a Barbour waxed cotton coats before. Nice stuff! No comparison between the rhino skin uncomfortable Filson tin cloth and the Barbour. I think the price is similar too. I will be buying one of the Bedales (I think that was the name) soon. I am really impressed.
Also looked at this Aigle hunting line. E200 for the Coat and E150 for the pants. Going to think about it, didn't look like a E350 deal!
Only the pants were gore tex. Might take a look at Laksen when I get to Germany in Febuary.

concerning Barbour: Have a Border Jacket which i like to take with me when its wet outside and im inviting for a driven hunt ,like pheasant huntinh e.g. .
Therefore its realy good, but IMHO the barbour waxed cotton jackets have not only plus! The material is "non breathable"! so you will get wet, not from the rain, but from your own transpiration. Not that comfortable

Guess the Barbour Jackets (the waxed models) are more good, when you have to sit in the rain. But they are not realy quiet! Second disadvantge.
And waxing, have done it by myself, but not realy satisfying. Think the "re-waxing" in the factory last longer, although you have to calculate about 40s per waxing. And if u dont renew the waxing regulary, the material will brake, and you have to repair it.
Another negaitve aspect -for me- is that the material "feels uncomfortable cold" if its get wet and you have absolutely no insulation effect by the Jackets itself. Dont know if the offered lining will help... mostly i wear a fleece Jacket under the Border...or a second jacket.
The big plus in barbour waxed cotton clothings that i see, is when you have to crawl or go through thick bush or wetlands...by a driven hunt.
If u ask me, barbour (the waxed line) is not that good as compared to other "modern" rain proof gear.
As Johann mentioned, the new Northumberland range looks fine. Saw them in a Frankonia shop, and have to say that the material looks fantastic, but so is the price.
Im not quiete sure of th emodel, looks a bit like a DPA JAcket in light green. Could be this:
http://www.barbour.com/product/profile.asp?productid=1108&activityid=0&departmentid=1&categoryid=67&womens=false but am not not sure.
A chance to get a Barbour Jacket the cheap way might be to take a look to ebay.
Have you taken a look to the cabelas side?
www.cabelas.com Offer a wide range of clothings, for a reasonable price.
Only negative side is the S&H costs. They take a min of 1/4 of the value of th eorder, iif i remembver right. So better to have a friend in the states, that could sent the things "private" to your adress.
Know what i mean?
Cheers

I have Barbour coats and had simular problems. I hope Barbour brings back their ventile jacket, maybe a few e-mails could help them? I shall take a look at the Northumberland shortly. Barbour also has a wool jacket that looks alright
I think much of the synthetic stof is highly over rated

Cheers
