Cover Crops
Hi All,

This year has been a disaster for our (and many others) cover crops. We are re-seeding a few acres this evening with a summer sown mix to take advantage of the recent rain but we only have a feed spinner.

We'll manage for this time but I was curious if anyone knows of where I can get a seed drill or a spinner for broadcastng seed, that will run on a quad.

I've looked on Logic and similar places but evverything is mega bucks!!

Thanks,

FB,

I am betting the best place to find something like this is probably one of the larger Gamefairs..Next time I am in town, I'll check a couple of the farm supply places, but I don't think they would do anything that small?

Regards,

Pete

Thanks Pete,

We have a spinner for the quad but because it is designed to feed straw rides, it eats the seed too quickly for sowing cover.

We ned to have a look at sorting a weekend out at some point. There has to be a Fallow out there somewhere with your name on it!!

A slug pelleter (electro broadcaster). But if you already have something similar can you not adjust the seed application rate down by mixing the seeds with fertiliser or grain as a carrier. Driving at close /seed throwing distance?

Could you add a variable resistor somewhere to slow it down a bit?

Trans,

That sounds much easier than what we ended up with!!

We taped a plastic pot over the spinning motor with some holes in the side to limit the ammount of seed falling on the spin plate!! It was a bit hairy as I was hangin on the back of the quad pouring the seed inass we went along...

I though tof the Variable resistor as Rarms suggested but I think it will still fall through just as fast but not spread as much.

I'll have a look into the slug pelleters as I think that is how we will have to go.

I did see this on the net but I'm not sure how well it will do the job... It is 42" wide but given that I know about as much on farming as I do about tightrope walking I'm a bit lost on the whole thing.

I think they are about £250 new which is OK if it will last a few years and does what it says on the box.
