Sidney HiscoxExotic birds in England
Hi, got an email from my brother who was shooting in Surrey and they managed to bring down a couple of beautiful parakeets!
would love to upload a photo but the old computer can be a pain in the arse.
At home we have a couple of white pheasants (with an attached £50 charity donation) which a guest shot the other day.

DUKWe have a similar case in SW Germany, the "Yellow-crowned Amazon or Yellow-crowned Parrot (Amazona ochrocephala)" lives quite happily in the city parks o Stuttgart. I have never eaten one though.

What recipe did he use?

Sidney Hiscoxhorrible apparently. he gave up after the first bite and had the local fish and chips!

A pity,
I was thinking that a piquant parakeet pate might be a pleasant new addition to the larder but, if they taste like they screech, I'll give it a miss.

dabloobanaParakeets taste horrible.
They are a pest (for crops) in India and shot (illegally) by farmers for crop protection.
Even the tribals (who eat most things) dont eat them.

DeerdogsI shot and ate a parrot in Belize when on jungle survival training many years ago.It was a stupid waste of a good looking bird.
Probably even less of an excuse for shooting one in Surrey, but thats the folly of youth for you!
