6.5 x 47 Any Experiences?
I have been told that this new calibre is a very good round with some "rave" reviews, does anyone have any experience of it and what do you think of it?

Nope. Raison d'etre is maximal accuracy (small rifle primer) with minimal wear (for F class competition). Long barrels and high pressures will acheive velocities approaching 260rem BUT for a UK stalking rifle I feel 260rem, 6.5x55 or 6.5mm284 have an edge as neither of those requirements are needed to the extent that they surpass the added flexibility of having some extra case capacity to allow running at less than peak pressure.

It might however work very well with a moderator in a shorter barrel

It was the short barrel/moderator option that I had in mind.

The biggest problem I see is that if you forget to bring the ammo and you are more than a quick dash to home you don't hunt, as only Lapua is making ammo. And you know that stuff is going to be rare!

Sewinbasher,

The 6.5x47 is making some impact on the BR circuitand is becoming quite popular there. The only reason I know is because the smith that is building my 260 Rem tried to convince me of the benefit, but to be honestthe extra N'th degree of accuracy at 400m in a BR rifle wasn't the deciding factor for me.

As a hunting rifle the 6.5x55, or either the 260Rem /6.5x284 (if you need non military calibres) will make your life easier and do the same thing.

The Sweedish has the edge if it is factory ammo you are after.

Difficult to predict how much more worth it it would be in a dedicated light moderated rifle.

The slimmest/lightest combination is likely to be a short action sporter with say 19" barrel and a ASE Jet Z compact. Would be very interesting to run top loads of 6.5x47 and 260rem through quickload to see muzzle pressure that will give you an idea of how much quieter it would be.
