Fallow BuckYep that was a brace of chocolate cockers that we shot over at a friends place in Suffolk on the 2nd Jan. It was some really thick cover we walked through and the spaniels earnt their keep that day.
I was shooting the next day and when I went to get my springer in the morning she gave me a look that said "bog off fatty, you're on your own today!!"
As for the doubles, we have a lot of fun with some beautiful guns throughout the year. There was a Sylven 20 bore that I shot with on boxing day that was one of the prettiest hammerguns I've ever seen.

Trapper DaveYep, Great fun. That's my dog in front of the gate in the picture. A long suffering Labrador who puts up with travelling in the footwell of my truck for the chance to retrieve a few birds and scoff the scraps from Fallowbuck's excellent dinners!

Anders, if that is the case, what is the point in having holidays??

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Fallow BuckI think I'd rather lose Christmas than lose those few days of sport!!!
Brian,
I spoke to dig the other day about Baldock. He's comeing along and said he would bring a few bits with him for people to handle and look at. I don;t tink we will get an opportunity to shoot any of them over the weekend as time will be a bit tight in the day time, but it will be nice none the less.
He currently has a couple of Purdey hammerguns that I'm looking forward to playing with in a pigeon hide and the 20 bore in the pictures above needs to be shot agina in a place where I can swing it rather than in the bottom of a ditch that I was in last time.
I suppose it ain't all bad!! I've got a few moere pics too to prove the point if I get round to posting them.

AndersI couldn't agree more, guys!
Norwegian laws are something special. This law have been with us for decades, and it's probably something with tradition.
I do think it's related to familiy issues. Housewifes need help from their husbands to do everything that's "neccessary"..

bumscratcherI`ve got a 12 1/2 year old cocker that is deaf and going blind but he can still stick it past those springer things!!.
I`m looking for another.

Steffenit looked like some of the shotguns had damascus barrels, what kind of ammo do you use?
(not being able to hunt 24.-31.dec and 3 days in easter isn't the end of the world.
you're suppose to eat then and if you fancy a trip outside, you haven't eaten enough).
21 January 2009, 12:41
Fallow BuckSteffen,
All the guns pictured have Damascus barrels. In the 12b guns we tend to use an ounce of 6's in a 2.5" case, something like a pure gold. I think the 20bore had 2.5" chambers too and IIRC it was 25g of 6's that went through that. My 16b shoots an ounce of 6's in a normal case, 2.75" I think.
Smallbore can correct me if I have made a mistake.
Out of those the only load I'm not ken on is the 200b one. I shoot an ounce of 5's (RC 20 cartridges) in my modern browning O/U and as a killing load for anything I think it is hard to beat. This shill is probably a bit too punchy for an old gun though I would think.

Small BoreAll The guns are damascus barrelled and nitro -proofed (except teh Bland).
30g fibre-wad Game Bore Pure Gold is the ammo of choice for the 12-bores.
The 20-bore digests 25g Hull High Pheasant. It is a J.D Dougall of Glasgow and I've been shooting partridges and pheasants with it these past two weeks with very good results.
The black powder guns get fed Game Bore black powder shells - fibre-wad 1oz of No.6.
Once you get shooting game with old hammer guns you won't be able to suffer those modern foreign drainpipes with floorboards bolted to them that pass for shotguns thesedays.
