(NEWSER) – An Italian man hunting illegally in a national park area killed his own father after mistaking him for a wild boar, authorities say. Police say the 34-year-old son was moving through thick bushes in the southern province of Salerno with his father Sunday when he opened fire after hearing rustling and seeing a shadow, the BBC reports. After realizing he had shot his father in the lower abdomen, the son raised the alarm immediately but doctors were unable to save 55-year-old Martino Gaudioso. Both men's rifles were seized, and Salerno Today reports that police are investigating the son for manslaughter. Authorities called for a ban on Sunday hunting last year after a spate of similar deaths.
