Gerhard.DelportCalling in the Limpopo Bushveld
I have a client that asked me to come and help with predator management.
He has lost a couple of calves to jackal late last year.
On my 1 st visit in Feb this year I called and shot 8 jackal in one night.
The past weekend I visited his property again.
After spending nearly 60 min on stand I finally had this big male come in...
He weighed in at 24 lbs was between 4-5 years old.
He gave me a shot at 210 paces and the 36gr Barnes Varmint Grenade did the job.
Saturday morning I did some scouting and took some photos....
Hope you enjoy
View from the bungalo at sunrise
This is the stand location during day light
Young kudu bull close to where I called from the previous night
Some of the zebra on the property
The cattle on the property is called Nguni's a indigenous cattle from Africa
Also found these kudu...
Back on stand at last light
But no jackal for Saturday night...
The predation management is working. Will go back in July to check if we have new customers.
But a very relaxing weekend in the Limpopo bushveld

Leopard might be found in the area but they would not bother me if i call one in...
Lion is not found in the area at all.
So its not a problem spending time under the Southern Cross

StonecreekBeautiful photos, thanks!
A 24-pound jackal is huge. Those we took in Namibia looked to be in the 15-pound range. Our host, a cattle farmer, told us that the jackal was his "Enemy Number 1". I didn't think that the little dogs would present much of a threat to cattle, but you and he would know much better than I.

ZekeShikarI got a daytime shot at a running jackel once but missed him. I was in the limpopo region and wish I would have known about calling at night.... or calling at all. It's one critter that I wish I would have been able to kill when I was there in 2006. It would have made a cool trophy.
Thanks for the story and photos!

Jeff,
We have caracal in the Limpopo province but not in the numbers as found in the east and western cape provinces
