Whats your favorite factory Varmint gun?
Let me have it boys. If you had to pick one out of your collection, which one is it?

I wouldn't mind a few reasons why either.....

.... it'll help me narrow things down. I would have already bought one, but I want to know if my first favorite is getting the cartridge I want this year. Your answers will help me compile a list to consider. Cool

Browning made Winchester model 1885 single shot in 22-250 Remington. It does well for me on groundhogs and crows as I don't require a repeater. Cause after one shot, neither of the rest of them sticks around to see what all the red mist was about!

I doubt that anyone else will concur.

Remington 700 VS 220 Swift, 6.5x20 Leupold.
Has plenty of horsepower and with the great selection of bullets I can take care of any varmint small to big and from close to as far as I care to shoot.

My favorite call guns are the two Remington Classic 220 Swifts Purp & Syco. Then the favorite heavy factory guns are the VSSF and VS Swifts. Yep, I like 220 Swifts.

I have a Rem 700 VS in 22-250 made in 1968. It has the original wood stock & 24" barrel. Out of all of my rifles that one would be my favorite. It will shoot in the low to mid .3's with 55gr Ballistic Tips.

ditto on the Cooper M21 only in my case it's a 204 Ruger. Light enough to carry with a bad group (5@100yds) in the 6's what's not to like?

If I am not keeping the hides I would pick my Winchester M-70 Heavy Varmint in .308 Win. With 168 grain A-Max bullet at 2770 ft/sec. I can hit just about any thing waaay out there.

I know it is not the super fast varmint gun that most prefer but it is a beast on criters. It is heavy for most to carry.

Second choice would be my Kimber varminter in .204 Ruger. But I am still experimenting with bullets on this rifle.

Loaded question, can't pick "just" one, but here is one for the long range stuff off the bench. Rem custom shop composite in 223 with a Nightforce Varmiteer 5-15X56 sitting up top. It has served me very well but I think today it is going to get some new optic's in the form of a U S Optic's ST 10 ill reticle, camed for the 223 out to 1000 yards.
So, if anyone is looking for a killer varmit scope let me know as this one may be for sale.

Man, this is tough! It is a toss up between two.

Kimber of Oregon LH .223 with Leupold 3x9 sweet, accurate and light gets the top nod only because of ammo availability.

Marlin 336 in .219 Zipper is on it's heels and only because of the lack of bullet selection and ammo availability.

I handload, so not a real problem, but would like to be able to buy it off the shelf in a pinch. Also, my varmint hunting has primarly been calling vice bench shooting so these are great for my needs.

actually, a pair of Savage 12BVSS's. One is a mostly stock .223 with a 6x24 B&L. tuned the triger to 8oz and it shoots right in the 1/2moa range out to 300 yards. The other one was it's identical twin, got a new bolthead and rechambered to my 223 Valkyrie, aka 22-284. That 9" twist will stablilize 80gr JLK/s out to 700 yards which is as long as I have papered it. The new for 2007 Accu-trigger will go down to 6oz according to Savage. Stable, accurate platform.

Everybody here must shoot BIG varmints......But you didn't specify size. So, my favorite around my modest hobby farm: my Anchutz .17 HMR, with an old 2x7 Denver Redfield, with a tiny dot.
Whatever you put the dot on goes tits up. Be it woodchuck, fox, feral cat, birds that poop on the deck, you name it........Grant.

I have a Weatherby Super Varmint Master that I just bought not to long ago in 243 win. It's my favorite already. Ive been shooting the hell out of ballons out at 400 yards plus. With factory winchester ammo. Its a killer on coyotes to. I have it topped off with a Zeiss scope, and Talley mounts.

Savage 12 VLP in the 204.
Super fast, accurate, and I love seeing the impacts through the scope.
35 gr bergers for yotes.
39 gr sierra blitz and 40 gr noslers for the smaller critters (excellent launching and red mist factors).

My favorite is a .221 Remington Fireball topped off with a Leupold 1.5 X 5 scope illuminated dot with Leupold low bases and rings. Use it at night under a spot light with a red lense. Great for 50 to 70 yard shots, perfect for cats. Load a .45 grain Speer Spitzer with Lil Gun powder.

You're not alone, onefunzr2! I have a Browning 1885 in 22 Hornet that I have taken ground squirrels with out to 190 yards. With Hornady VMax bullets in factory ammo, it is satisfyingly destructive.
