Shooting Dassies in Africa.
Some of the best fun my son had in Africa with his .243 was shooting Dassies.

Has anyone/does anyone specialise in shooting Dassies in Africa ?

I am an expert with dandelions in Indiana. I offer several guided hunts a year with the season being primarily in the spring and summer months.
Seriously though, shooting things like flowers and walnuts is great fun and good practice.

pardon for hijacking your thread,

I hadn't thought about shooting dandelions probably in 40 to 45 years.

When I was much much younger we spent summers at our farm near Conroe Texas. Boy could those summer days get long when you were doing chores. I'd get up before anyone else and sneak out with my bb gun. I'd blast those suckers. Shot by point not using sights. Thanks for the memory.

I had always wanted to hunt dassies / hyrax on one of my hunts, so I talked the PH into takeing some time off to do so. It was lots of fun. We took a boat along the shore of Lake Kariba and used a shotgun. I think I shot eight. I was charged a $10 each trophy fee. I believe they are mostly ignored on most hunts.

My aplogies to Code4. I read "daisies" since I have never been to Africa, nor did I know what dassies were.

There are those who would argue we have them here, too. Ours are about the size of a housecat and closely resemble them in shape, sound and movement...

You can talk to Infinito, I've met him a couple of years ago on Meltonwold Game farm near Victoria West where he was guiding an English gent on Springbok. The client had a 22-250 and by all accounts had a ball sniping dassies.

This year I was in the area for a while and I took myself to the hills and koppies. End result was I shot about 150 of them in 3 days and used up over 200 rounds of 222 ammo.

There are millions of them in the Karoo. An interesting diversion from the deer and springbok hunts.

If Chuck Norris dives into a swimming pool, he does not get wet. The swimming pool gets Chuck Norris.

Dassies are great fun to shoot. Good eating too! Ive shot thousands over the years with a scoped .22 rimfire.Their skins make an excellent kaross. Dassies are not rodents but are related to elephants! Vicious little buggars when wounded or cornered.
