FjoldVarmint gun accuracy
Here's the light loads for my new heavy barrel varmint gun. A 260 grain Nosler Partition at 2600+fps.
What do you think, adequate for ground squirrels?

Uhn, 260 gr. Nosler!!??? Might be a little light, but I think if you hit them in the eye, you'll be ok.

yep, that's what I thought, I guess I'll have to build a 404 to go with this 375.

seafire/B17GHey, each hole looks like a 10 to 15 shot group out of some of my accurate 22 caliber hand loads.
If it is putting a hole that big, you can still miss the rodent while still hitting him!
cheers

You might want to have a buddy watch your 6 with some buck and a slug.

pdhntr1Fjold,
I don't think you will be satisfied with the performance of the NP on ground squirrels. You may be able to get one to hold together on a broadside shot, provided you don't hit a rib bone. But it is "iffy" at best. A raking shot will no doubt require a follow up....
My advise to you, Sir, one word. SOLIDS!

FlippyJust aim directly below them. That way you can kill them with the schrapnel and dig a hole to plant them in with one bullet...
Nice and tidy!

TankerFjold: I have found the 220 gr. Hornady to be very accurate and quite effective on varmints from my 375. That flat point won't endear it to many BC fans but is sure works on the range and in the field while serving up less recoil and is cheap to boot.

Old Elk HunterI had to switch to 405 grain cast bullets in my 458 Win Mag to bring down the local sage rats.
They're pretty tough critters. Don't want to be run over during a charge.
