I'm planning a trip to the panhandle of Okla. for a little prairie dog hunting. I was wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with taking several rounds (~750 rounds) of ammo with them in their checked luggage. I've taken several hunting trips before put I've only taken a few rounds of ammo (< 40).

I checked the airline's website and this was their statement on ammo:

The ammunition may be placed in the same container as the firearm and must be securely packed in cardboard (fiber), wood, or metal boxes, or other packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition.
When checking ammunition, Customers are limited to 11 pounds gross weight (ammunition plus container) per person.

So, with this info I should be able to take as much as I can up to the 11 pound limit regardless of the number of rounds.

Trust me... I meant Smart assed answer (mine)... And with airline weight restrictions averaging 50 lbs.... Of course I don't need much convincing to buy MORE AMMO!!!

5 kilos or about 11 pounds of ammo is the "universal" allowed amount. However, check with the airline regs for the airline you will be using, get a copy in writing and bring it with your boarding pass.
