Load for Rabbits
Hello,
I am going to hunt some rabbits in the wood heap between two houses about 500 yards apart. What would you use a hollow point in the .22 or a solid I do not want a ricohet So would a low velocity be beat. Also Would a air rifle be better?
Thanks,
Peter

Theoreticaly 22hp would be better than solid but you'll still hear a lot of richocets. Even hypervelocity 22lr do not have enough velocity to destroy the bullet on contact with the ground, all that will happen is that the richochet will travel further.

Air rifles pellets even if they do richochet will not be dangerous at 250 yards providing you are not using extra ordinarily heavy pointed slugs.

If you can combine a good angle and the woodpile as a backstop then 22lr hp maybe ok (the new eley subsonic is very soft lead and I have heard sometimes doesn't even exit a rabbit) otherwise I suspect air rifle or shotgun is best.
