Problems with Lyman Case Trimmer
Just bought a Savage Model 12BVSS-S in .223
for woodchucks and bought a Lyman Universal
Case Trimmer some of the cases will hold in the
chuck and others won't ! using just Winchester
brass.

I like a lot of the Lyman products, but that
Universal case holder is a joke. The locking stud
which can be used in a drill works great -- get
that and you will be satisfied.

I dont know if your's is new or old, I had one the ball bearing was gummed up and wouldn't center the case, and would slip around in the chuck. I sprayed it with brake cleaner and re oiled it and haven't had any more problems with it.

If it were mine I would sell the Lyman trimmer. Then use that money to buy a Wilson trimmer. They are about 32 dollars for the basic unit and 6 or 7 dollars for cartridge specific case holders. Sinclairr International offers several optional extras. I got the unit with their mount and caseholder clamp. This bumps the price to 52 dollars. The ultimate also includes a Starrett micrometer head for length adjustments. This is a little pricey at 143 dollars.

Any way this is a well made, very accurate, square cutting trimmer that you can also use to "square" your case heads (if you are into that sort of thing)I feel that this is money well spent. Sinclairs's web address below.
