voldoc02Need advice on 17 cal. Berger Bullets
I have developed a good load for my 17 Rem. CZ varmit rifle.
20 gr. V-Max
VV-N 135 24.1 grs.
Federal small rifle match primer
2.240" OAL
fireformed Lee collet neck sized cases
Velocity-4385 fps
groups 4's- 6's
Question- what Berger bullet would be a good canidate\for
further load developemnet??
as they are quite expensive and seemingly only availabel in lots of 200.
I am thinking 20 HPFB for crow, PD use
any advice would be appreciated as I am new to 17 Cal.
thanks much,

MuleriderBergers "match" bullets, vs their MEF style, still are quite explosive on critters, but give you a better BC. I can send you 10-15 of the 20 and 22 gr (either or both types), if that would assist in load development.
They are molly'ed, as an FYI. May have some nekkid 25's....

Cal SibleyI get my best accuracy with Berger 25gr. HPs pushed along
by Varget 23.0grs. In my Remington 700BDL my velocity is 3900fps. and it groups in the mid .3"s. My best group with this load was .264" (5 at 100yds.). Other good groups are with the Hornady 20gr. VMAX. Nothing else I've shot equals these two bullets. Best wishes.

Britishvoldoc02 - For what it's worth, a friend of mine uses 15 and 18 grain Bergers in his 17 Rem exclusively on winged vermin and the results are very impressive - no 'res mist' but lots of feathers. Not sure if you can get hold of them where you are but they are well worth seeking out. I will try and get his load details for you but he's away in Spain for the next ten days so I'll cath when he returns.

redialWonderfully accurate, they are but too hard for most of my purposes.
The 30 grainers do offer some upgraded "whomp!" on bigger critters like coyotes but the 20's I've used always exit on smaller stuff. Not good.
I use the V-Max for 'most everything and the Berger 30s for bigger animals, longer ranges. I've never tried the MEF Bergers since the Hornady works so well.
YMMV, of course.
