groundhog devastation38 VA groundhogs in one day!! Conservation at work!
Took Bobby Brown(chuckmusher) out to a honeyhole on Friday. We hadn't hunted it all year but the farmer had told me that he had hay cut and he'd accompany us as he hadn't shot any all year either. The three fields we shot in were shot very sparingly in 2010 or not at all and the results are telling!
50 groundhogs shot at
38 confirmed kills
328.5 yards average shot taken
301.4 yards average killshot
Longest kill shots were 505 and 509 yards with the 204
Rifles used were the 17 CDL/SF. Savage VLP in 204, Tikka T3 Lite in 243 (18 kill shots by Bobby out to 380 yards) and the 6mmVLS.
The farms where we were had exactly 100 coyote kills since January 1,2011!! Shooting groundhogs too early (March, April and up till Memorial Day) causes serious declines in numbers of groundhogs available for shooting later on!! Remember that next spring when you just have to shoot every groundhog you see early on!! GHD

WismonI didn't know we had groundhogs (or coyotes) in those kinds of numbers in Virginia. It sounds like you've got your work cut out for you. Or you did, perhaps.

Geedubyagood on ya'll
Some guys have all the fun. It was around 105 degrees F here for the last several days, with humidity in the 80% range. Walking outside I could feel my ears burning with the wind blowing. Even with a sweat rag and being in the shade it's a chore to keep your eyes clear enough to see and your rifle above the "drip line".
