FlippyElk Study--Elk babies and the effect of predation
Elk StudyInteresting.
Doesn't tell me anything I didn't already suspect, just puts numbers to it all.

FlippyThis was a twelve-year study. Which coincidently started the same year the "animal loving people of Oregon" voted out hunting black bear and cougar with dogs and bait. Because it was "inhumane."
Cougar and bear sightings are WAY up in most if not all the major cities, and there have been sightings in areas where you wouldn't have seen any 10 years ago. Maybe after two or three kids are killed, the "animal loving people of Oregon" will change their minds. Probably not.
During hunting season, I saw piles of bear and cougar scat that were twice as big as I have ever seen before and I've been hunting and hiking in Oregon since I was a kid, about 40 years. I also saw about a dozen deer carcasses that were eaten (scattered). I seldom saw more than one in a season before.
