Sierra 65gr for .223
Hi chaps, i would like to know if anyone has tried Sierra 65gr boattail spitzer in their .223. I have a cooper on order that is due in the UK in October, orderd with a 1 in 9 twist and want a bullet that would be good for foxs and general varminting but i also want a bullet that i can shoot at a 500yard range. My local gun shop has quite a few of these bullets in stock. Do you think they would be good for both ?

There is a very great shortage of game bullets in .224 in the heavier weights. Why the bullet makers seem to be missing this is strange. Since the Sierra site says the BC of the 65 gr Gameking and the 69 Matchking are nearly the same I would say it would make a great dual use bullet for your rifle. The other two heavy game bullets, the Swift and Barnes seem to have some accuracy issues. Some rifles they shoot in others they don't. Try the Sierra and I think they will do well. They shot good in my rifle at 100 yards and it had 1-12 twist! FNMauser

I use them and they are very accurate. I load them with Benchmark. Work really well in a 1 in 9 twist.

Thanks lads, the powders that i have (some i use for my .243) are Varget, H335, VV160, H414, and H4895, I will be using either fed GM 205m or CCI 400 primers.
I will also be wanting a bullet that will give a good splat on rabbits and crows out to a max range of about 3ooyds. cheers
