Several months ago a young fellow on this form had bad luck with the 62 grain varmint Grenade bullets He pulled them all and offered them for a geatly reduced price. Thought they would be worth testing so I bought them. They arrived pull marks and all.
Tested them yesterday in my Ruger .243 Varmint.
41gr. Accurate 4064, Winchester cases, #34 primers oal=2.744". A little sooty, mild, 3470fps, average velocity.3/16" 5 shot group at 50 yds. 1 1/2" group at 300 yds. 5 to 10 MPH wind angling from the rear.
with the same load the 68gr. Berger match did great also.
FYI* Steven's mod. 200, 22-250, 55gr. Varmint Night Mare, 39 gr. H-4831, Fed cases, 215 primer, oal=2.475"., 3340 fps., 4 shot .200" group at 50 yds. A 3 shoot 2" group at 300 yds. and another 4 shot 1 5/8" group at 300 yds. roger

Some guns like, some don't. Yours is one of those that do. It's kind of a why ask why thing, and nice to find out another bullet that works in your gun. I have some 36 grainers that I will be trying in a .222 Sako real soon and I hope they shoot better than in my .223 M 700.

Here's a twist . a shooting buddy can get the 50 grainers to shoot OK but not the 36 grainers.Makes no sense but that's the way of it. roger

The M 700 shoots 50-62 grain in 1/2" or less and 40's from 1/2-1", but the 36 shoot most in 1" but nearly always a flier that opens it up. It is a 1-12 twist. The 50 sx Hornady are my all time cheap favorite.

Is "Accurate 4064" the same burn rate as Varget?
The reason I'm asking is that I have not seen IMR or Accurate powders for sale in Australia.
What barrel twist rate is your rifle?

Varget is listed close to Accurate 4064 but a little faster burning. I have never used Varget. roger

so far i have loaded .204, .223, .22-250, .243, .25-06, and 6.5 swede, and Varget has been the best, most accurate powder in all of them.

i tried IMR4064, H4350, H4831, etc...


nothing grouped as well or ran as fast as the Varget for me.

I got the 50 grain VGs working in my 10" twist 22.250 they don't work in the standard 14" twist gun though, too long.

I'm still trying to find a load for the 36 grain VGs in any of my 223s or 22.250s

I v loaded for 30-06, 308Win, 243Win, 6.5X55 Swede, and 303 brit, none of them liked varget what so ever? Odd that that works for you. Must be something with the equator.

You know it just came to me, what bullet weights are you using? That may have something to do with it. I found the 150's reacted much better to Varget then the 160 and higher. I got 1" groups at 50yds with Varget and .50 or less with IMR4064, better yet IMR3031 pushing a 220gn Rn.

Do you the rifling in the fella's rifle? If he dose not have the right rate of twist he will never group them.
He may just want to find out.

Any tips on loading for those, my inlaws are coming over to load them on top of a 223rem for a ar. Will they blow out a huge hole of a fox? Or preserve the pelt?

Haven't been a serious varmint hunter in many years. Most of my shooting is dedicated to testing rifles and components and wildcating.
Many of my shooting buddies are avid varminters and because of California laws are forced to use the lead free bullets, but they don't have computers. I do'nt know how to put you in touch. Some of those Bakerfield boys may chime in on this one. roger

well...now that you say that, i was using light-for-caliber bullets in each, other than the .204 and .223 and .22-250...
