uplandrscope for 22 Hornet
I have a nice Kimber of Oregon Cascade in 22 Hornet, looking for scope recommendations. What are you guys using on your Hornets?

308SakoLeupold 2.5 x 8 with the standard Duplex reticle. Not too much, and you will not tend to overshoot the cartridge, but enough power to be precise at practical ranges.

ConWhen I had my Hornet is lived with a straight 6x ontop. I sometimes felt it needed a little more but I'd be wary of putting too much magnification on one. 8x maximum for me, but I did well enough with 6x.
Cheers...

I have a BSA Martini Model 12 in .22 Hornet. It wears a Redfield 3200 scope in 24 power.

craigsterOn my Svage 23 I've got an M8 6X Leupold. On my Ruger #1 (K Hornet) I have an older Leupold M8 8X AO. I think the 8X with the AO is just about perfect for Hornet class rounds.

Husqvarna M98My Sako .22 hornet wears a 8x56 Super Helia with stealtube and a nr 1 recticle.
My main hunting with this rifle is late in the evening or moon lit lights hunting for fox and rabbits.
With a good moonlight, some snow in the ground it´s like shooting in broad daylight using other optics.
8x is ample magnification to make precise shots at extended ranges with the .22 hornet.
great hunting to you all.

Savage99The trick on the Hornets is to mount the scope backwards so as to pretend that it's a long shot.
I suggest the Weaver B4.

sccm1I have a Burris 3-9 x40 with Ill red dot on my hornet and have no problems with.

Depends a little bit what your using it for. But if it is for small critters squirrel to fox size critters and paper I'd go with something like a 3 X 12 or 4 X 16 range. Having said that I really like the Busnell 4200's and the Weaver Gran Slams.

f224I use straight 6x42mm Leupold scopes on my 223Rem's for prairie dogs. If you can't see them, they are too far away. You might consider that factor with your 22 Hornet.

acpchuck45I have a Burris 8X mini on my Ruger #3 Hornet. Great size for the rifle and good optices. My only complaint is the cross hairs are a little too heavy. I think 8X is about the max for magnification to still see your hits. Have put a 6.5x20 for load development and I was gettting enough muzzle jump at 10 to not see my bullets hitting the target. And 8x is plenty of power out to 200 yards for PDs.
Got a great deal on this scope, $75 direct from Burris because it was a factory 2nd (see the purple occular housing), of course that was 25 years ago.

killa killamy hornet has a vxI 3x9x40 in a duplex reticle. i like the 3 to 9 power. 3x just in case seal/sea otter pop their heads out of the water 30 yds away. or i can snipe one at 100 yds turning it up to 6/7x. happy hunting!
shoot first, ask questions later....

Joe YoungI don't believe you can overscope a rifle for varmints. you have a nice rifle, don't cheap out on the scope. Mine has a Unertl 12X Ultra Varmint. Recently replaced the old steel tube K10 with it. The K10 served me well for 40+ years.

StonecreekIt would seem a shame to put a bulky scope on such a well-proportioned rifle as a Kimber Cascade. The Leupold 3-9 Compact I have on my Hornet serves me well and would look good on the Kimber. There's not much within Hornet range that you can't see very clearly with 9x magnification.

uplandrStonecreek, your suggestion prompted me to check the gun safe. I had a Leupold 3x9 compact on a Kimber Cascade 22lr. Swapped it over, put the 4x on the lr. Sometimes the answer is right in front of you all along... Thanks
I have a leupold 3-9x50 on my cz 527 Americsn and I it has served me well

crowrifleI have Bushnell 6x18 on my CZ. It may be a little bit ungainly, but I do love to watch those crows come unglued when that 40 grain pill connects.

VarmintGuyUplandr: Count me in with the Joe Young and Crowrifle crowd! I also greatly prefer as much scope power as I can strap on a Varmint Rifle!
It simply is an easy route to better accuracy and more kills (fun!) afield!
One of my 22 Hornets (a Ruger #1-B) has a Leupold 6x18 variable on it!
I would advise a nifty 4x12 varible for your Kimer Varminter as a minimum!
Best of luck with whatever power you choose!

riflegunbuilderI have a Sightron 4.5 x 14 on mine. I enjoy watching the effect of 30 gr. Calhoons. Mine is the older model without A/O. 12x is ok 14x can get fuzzy.

458LottfanI have a night force on my AR-15 and one on my .25-06. They are incredibly rugged and have some excelent retical choices. Would be well worth the look. A 2.5-10 power would be a great choice.
